Synopsis

Alpha Geek 4: Brent

Wolf shifter Marie Lavine left her life in the military behind and is settling into her new role as bodyguard nicely. Though her past left her with PTSD, she’s excited to move forward and see what awaits at her new job. What she didn’t expect was to sniff out the scent of her mate. A cute nerdy human that made her wolf instantly hot.

Chemical Engineer and geeky human, Brent Williams has been on the run from his former employer. He’s wanted, preferably dead. While hiding out with a friend, he attends a party and meets the most beautiful woman in his life. He knows she’s out of his league since he’s geeky, wimpy, small, and more importantly…human.

But after a blind date gone wrong, Brent ends up nearly dying. Using a magic serum Zeke created, Marie saves his life. He’s now a massive alpha full of strength, muscles and the urge to destroy a bed or two claiming Marie. His mate. It’s all sex and romance until death comes calling. It’s time to fight for his life and for the only woman he wants.

Reader's Note: Hang on to your panties, my geek lovers. This one's dirty, fun and action-packed. As with all my books, adults only, please. Enjoy, my freak-loving readers.

Chapter 1 Look Inside

Chapter 1

Brent Williams had never been so exhilarated. Ever. He parked the borrowed Ferrari in a lot and cut the engine. The car’s top pulled back, and he breathed the crisp night air.

The drive in the fancy car had felt like freedom, even though it was but a short—and fake—sort of freedom. His reality would soon come crashing back around him.

For the past five years, eating at cheap hole-in-the-wall places where the food’s origin was questionable and sleeping wherever he could lay his head had taken its toll on his young body.

Well, not that young anymore. He would be thirty in a year. And honestly, his situation had somewhat improved. At his last job, he could sneak uneaten food from diners’ plates before he shoved the dishes through the dishwasher.

Stepping out and closing the door to the Ferrari, Brent searched the sea of cars, looking for a hunkering shadow. That was silly. He’d only been there a week. There was no way they could track him so soon.

Through the window of the building, he heard a cheer go up. The party was in full swing. He cringed at the thought of joining in the festivities. There would be too many people around. Who was he kidding? He hated functions with two people. But Zeke had made him promise to come. Brent desperately needed his friend’s help, and so he agreed. He’d make a quick appearance and duck out.

Who knew? Maybe he’d find a pretty woman who wouldn’t mind hooking up with a geeky scientist doing a perfect impression of a string bean.

Brent scoffed at that. Sex hadn’t even been on the radar for the last two years. When trying to survive, some things were more important than others. That wasn’t to say his male urges hadn’t been taken care of when necessary.

Pushing all that shit to the back of his mind, he headed for the entrance and the next painful few minutes that would be his socializing for the month.

Seeing all Nick’s employees and family members crammed in the party room sent his heart into a spin. With his back to the wall, he slid toward the dark corner, praying nobody noticed him.

Zeke, Alexa, and Nick stood at the front of the room. With so many people, he could barely see them. Everyone lifted their drink of choice and yelled cheers. Nestling into a cozy spot between a stack of wine boxes and the wall, Brent took in the crowd.

From the standing toast, most returned to their seats. And that’s when he saw her.

The most stunningly breathtaking, tongue-tying woman he’d ever seen. Long legs, silky hair, cherry-red lips. His chest ached. His eyes followed her every movement. Nick handed her the microphone.

“Thanks, everyone,” she said. Her voice was a symphony from heaven to his ears. She said more, but his mind was stuck on the melody of her voice, not her words. Never had something entranced him so. If he’d been walking, it would’ve stopped him.

A tall guy with muscles to spare turned to him. “Yeah, perfect, huh?” the man said, shaking his head. “Too bad she’s not looking for a quickie. I’d quickie her all night long.”

Anger at the man’s words zipped through him. How dare this muscle head speak of this thing of the beauty so crassly. The woman deserved to be praised, not reduced to a sexual joke.

Brent’s hands clenched into fists as the big man laughed and turned completely to him again. “Really, pencil neck? You want to get into a fight with me?” As the asshole tensed and relaxed each pec, his shirt bounced. Brent felt like he was watching a tennis game—eyes going from one side to another.

Anger quickly morphed into fear. Brent held his hands up, palms out. “I don’t want any problems. I-I just thought what you said wasn’t...wasn’t...” Oh fuck, he was going to get the shit beaten out of him. How did this guy even know he was mad? Curiosity took over. He whispered over the voice on the speakers, “Are you a shifter?”

The man cocked a brow. “Aren’t we all? But you.”

That surprised him. Was he the only human in the bunch? And the woman of his dreams was a shifter? His eyes glanced toward the front of the room. Alexa was introducing Marie—what a beautiful name—to those at the head tables.

“Dude,” the man said to him, “go meet her. Ask her out or something. It’s obvious...” he waved a hand in front of his face, “that you’re interested in her.” The shifter’s eyes raked down Brent’s body. “Then again, she might break you, toothpick.” He walked off.

So, Brent didn’t have much body mass. At least he wasn’t a muscle-bound ignoramus. He had brains and used them.

Brent slid around the wine boxes toward the exit. He’d had enough socializing for the year. Plus, he gained an image that would make him smile no matter how bad things got. Marie’s bright smile would always be with him wherever he was: prison camp, dark hole in the ground, hell.

“Hey, Brent,” Zeke called to him. His friend made his way through a throng of people—shifters—toward him. Oh shit. Even though his friend meant well, the social butterfly Zeke had become was at odds with his own introvertedness. Brent hurried toward the double doors.

“Brent, man, wait up.” He heard the hurt in his friend’s voice from ignoring him. The last thing he wanted was to upset his last hope for freedom.

He stopped and faced away from most of the group. “Sorry, Zeke.”

Zeke patted his shoulder and walked him outside. “No, I’m sorry, man. I know how you feel about shit like this. I was the same until I met Alexa.”

“And became all this.” Brent gestured at Z’s shifter physique, completely the opposite of his own.

Z laughed. “Yeah, had to say this helped a lot. Gave me the confidence I needed to face the world.”

“I bet.” No, he wasn’t jealous in the slightest. Feeling stupid about his emotion, he changed the subject. “Hey, thanks for letting me stay a few more days. I really appreciate it.”

“Not a problem. I like having someone around who can talk molecular cells and not get glazed-over eyes.” Both men chuckled. “Stay as long as you want. How about I introduce you—”

Bile inched up his throat from his nervous stomach. “I should go—”

“I knew you’d say that.” Zeke patted his shoulder. “Oh, how do you like the car? Piece of work, isn’t she?”

“Jesus, Z. It’s fucking fantastic. So smooth. Revving the engine, I feel the power at my fingertips. It’s—”

“Exhilarating.”

Brent looked at his friend. “Exactly.” He held his buddy’s gaze, wondering if Z knew more than he let on about his own secret. “I’d like to talk to you about a project I’ve been working on while you were playing in Vegas.”

Zeke laughed. “Getting shot at is not my idea of fun.”

“Oh.” He hadn’t realized. “I thought it was VillianCon.”

Z sighed. “It was but... We’ll talk tomorrow.”

“Yeah, sure.” Brent pulled away from the hand on his shoulder and headed for the car. He was glad Zeke didn’t know anything about his recent history.

“Also,” his friend hollered from the front doors, “I want to know why you didn’t bring any luggage with you.”
