Chapter 9 Continued
"Because I would never do that!" My growl reverberates through the car as I try to calm her down and simultaneously think of a way out.
"Stop the car," She demands, “I want to see for myself.”
“See what?” I snap back.
“All these ‘thems’ and police are watching my apartment. If they are there, then I’ll ask them why they are there. And, it’s probably all to do with you and fuck all to do with me.” Ava says with her usual bark, just as fierce as her bite.
I grip the steering wheel tighter, my thumbs digging deep into the rubber. “I can’t do that.”
“Damm it!” Ava bangs her hands against the dashboard and then huffs back into her seat. “So, you have kidnapped me?”
“See it as more of a rescue,” I tell her, trying her with a mischievous grin.
“That’s just great, some weird ass fairytale, right?” Ava says. I sense her mood change.
“Hey, I’m as good a prince charming as the next shifter,” I reply.
“You’re an asshole, that’s what you are,” Ava says.
“Yeah, that too,” I tell her. I watch her try to hide a smile. Ava turns and looks out the window.
"Fine," she huffs. "So what's the plan now for your daring recuse?"
"First, I need to get you somewhere safe. Then, I have to contact my pack."
"Wait—your pack? You have a pack?" She looks at me, awe and fear mingling in her eyes.
The moment I’m about to respond, sirens blare around us, and police cars skid into the road ahead, blocking our path.
I slam on the brakes in front of the police cars and we screech to a stop in front of the police cars.
“Fuck!” I shout as the turning blue and red lights of the police cars burn into my eyes.
"Breaker." Ava gasps, reaching out and gripping my arm. “What the fuck are we going to do?”
